TestMonitor has a powerful roles and permissions system that allows administrators to restrict access to users for each project. You can exclude users from a certain project as well. TestMonitor comes with a few predefined roles that fit in a typical testing project. It is also possible to add custom roles with your own preferred permission set.
Use the cog wheel in the header to open the Settings. At the left side, you’ll see a categorized list of configuration sections. The third section is Users & Roles. In the underlying section Roles you can manage the roles in your TestMonitor environment.
The roles overview shows all the existing roles, including their name and description. The roles shown in this list are either default roles or custom roles that were added in your TestMonitor environment.
The cog button to the right enables you to edit what columns are shown in the roles overview.
Add a Role
You can add a new role by selecting Add Role on the top right of the roles overview page.
A popup will appear allowing you to specify the role's information.
To specify a new role you need to fill the following fields:
- Name (required)
A short, clear name of the role. A role's name should reflect a particular scope or function in TestMonitor.
A more descriptive identification of the role.
Click Save to add the new role or Cancel to go back to the roles overview page.
If you saved the role you can go to the role detail page by either selecting the role name or the 'arrow' button to the right of the role. Here you can set the permissions for this role.

You can access the following information:
The name and description of the role.
- All the permissions that are available and the ones that are selected.
Update a Role
To edit a role's details you can go to the role detail page by either selecting the role name or the 'arrow' button to the right of the role. A pencil is shown when you move your cursor over role's name and description. Select the particular field and you'll be able to edit the text. Click Save to save the changes you've made or Cancel to discard them.
To update the permissions you can select and deselect the boxes next to the permissions. Changes will be saved automatically.
It is not possible to update the default roles in TestMonitor. The default roles are: Tester, Test manager, Developer, Auditor.
Delete a Role
You can delete a role by opening its detail page and selecting the three dots … in the top right corner.
Select Delete and a confirmation box will be shown. Select Delete again to delete the role.

Assign Roles to Users
To assign users to roles you can go to the Settings > Projects. Go to the project detail page by either selecting the project name or the 'arrow' button to the right of the project. Go to the section Members in the sidebar on the left to update the project members.
You can add a new member by selecting Add Member on the top right of the members overview page.
A popup will appear allowing you to select the member and the appropriate role(s). You can assign one or more roles to a user in a project.
Choose Add Member to add the selected member or Cancel to go back to the previous page.
Users with an admin account are automatically assigned to all projects. They don't need roles to access the projects.
