TestMonitor allows you to import and export test cases using Excel or CSV-files. Go to Design and select the test suite where you want to import or export test cases. In the test cases overview, select the three dots ... in the top right corner and choose either Import... or Export... to get started.
Once your file is ready, start importing test cases by heading over to the test cases overview, select the three dots ... in the top right corner and choose Import....
Importing of test cases contains three steps:
- Upload the file
- Match columns
- Choose options
Upload a File
When you've chosen Import... you get to step one, uploading your file. Before you can import any test cases, you’ll need an Excel or CSV file that contains the required columns.
You can upload a file by drag and dropping it or clicking the field to open your file directory. When the upload of your file succeeded, a check mark is shown.
Now you can select the Columns button to proceed to the next step, matching columns.
Now you need to match the columns in your file with the columns in TestMonitor.
For test cases the following columns are available:
- Name (required)
- Instructions (required)
- Expected Result
- Test Data
Please note that no selection is required for optional columns.
To match a column, for example Name, select the green arrow to open the dropdown list. The dropdown list shows all available columns from your file. Choose the column that matches the column in TestMonitor. Next, five rows with data are shown to give you the possibility to verify if the correct data will be placed in the column. Repeat this for all the columns you want to match. When you're finished, select the Options button to proceed to the third step.
Simply select Finish to start the import. When you've selected Finish, the import will be queued. You’ll be notified through email once the import has been run.
When a specific row cannot be imported, the email contains a list of warnings and errors that refer to the row number and the cause of the failed import.
You can also find the import in the TestMonitor Imports overview. Select the cog button in the right corner of the top menu bar. This brings you to the TestMonitor Settings. Choose Import and you find the import you've just made in the Imports overview.
