Tutorial 1: Project Preparation

Create your first project.

Introduction

Projects are the hub of TestMonitor activities. All data -- like requirements, risks, test cases, test suites, milestones, test runs, test results, and issues -- link to a project.

Generally, we suggest you create a separate project for each piece of software you want to manage with TestMonitor.

Before you start using TestMonitor, you need to complete a few steps. The first step is creating a new project.

Creating a project

When you launch TestMonitor for the first time, the page presents three project creation options:

  1. Start from scratch

  2. Use a template

  3. Proceed without creating a project

1. Start from scratch

After selecting this option, a pop-up box displays. Enter a name and then set the start and end dates.

Click Let’s get started! You can now configure project details. Create users, assign user tasks, and define requirements and risks.

In TestMonitor you’re able to configure a project by picking the features you need. For example, say you're about to start a project that doesn't need risk-based testing or the integrated issue tracker. You can turn those features off, hiding the related menu items, filters, and reports. Navigating TestMonitor becomes simpler, because only relevant filters will show up and there are no empty reports anymore. "Less is more" truly applies here!

2. Use a template

This is a good option for people who want a quick start and a basic review of TestMonitor's features.

3. Proceed without creating a project

Select this option to register now but create a project at a later date. After selecting this option, the Settings page displays. In the future, open the Settings page to create a project.

Creating a project from the Settings page

To open the Settings page, click the Cog on the header. On the left menu, select Projects. The page displays all current projects. Return to the Settings page when you want to find and manage projects.

Click Add project.

You have three choices: Empty project, Clone from project, or From template.
